Reiki is a gentle and transformative experience, both for the practitioner and the receiver. Having a Reiki Attunement (or Initiation) is one of the most beautiful healing experiences you can have, and I love seeing the change in people as they open their eyes and say “Wow, that was amazing….” something definitely happens in a Reiki attunement that is different to what happens in a session. I’ve been working with Reiki for 14 years, and trained to Master level so that I can teach others.
’What is a master? I would say that he is not someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to do his best to discover a knowledge he already has in his soul. Paulo Coehlo.’
I see the Reiki attunement as being like an appointment between you and your ‘Higher Self’. What do I mean by Higher Self? I mean your own consciousness, in an expanded sense, the greater part of you that you return to fully when you die. You might also call it your soul. It’s as though you open up your channels, not just to the Universal Life Energy that we call “Reiki”, but to receiving more of this authentic soul self.
In the ceremony, I use the Reiki Master symbol and the other Reiki symbols around you, and in the energy centres in your body. You are opened, cleared and activated…you can feel it straight away in your hands, and in your feet also. Your whole body feels amazingly soft and relaxed, and your inner self feels transported to another plane. We spend the day working with the energy, learning about the Chakras/energy centres in your body, practicing the self-healing and also all the students do a full Reiki session. We talk about setting up healing spaces and professional practice for anyone who isn’t already a practicing healer.
When you leave, your ready to start some practice sessions on your friends and family. They will love it, and you’ll find that once you start doing sessions, the Reiki energy is teaching you too. It will enhance your intuition and you will keep growing into your new energy over time.
After the initiation, there is a time of self healing. I recommend to new students of Reiki to spend the next 21 days doing a self-healing every day. This lines up with Mikao Usui’s journey on the sacred mountain to rediscover Reiki, and it reminds them each day that the first person a healer must work with is themselves. My own story was a perfect example of this, and I still focus on keeping myself clear and healthy as much as I can. I also don’t need to be perfect to help other people, and you don’t either. You can read my story here.
I really encourage anyone to learn Reiki, it is simply such a gentle and safe way to work with the powerful healing energies available to us. Children love it, and they can learn it too if they want to. If you would like to know more about anything to do with Reiki, please contact me here.
